
Municipal Senior Citizens' Advisory Council
The Municipal Senior Citizens' Advisory Council of the City of Jena is elected on the basis of the Thuringian Act to Strengthen the Participation and Involvement Rights of Senior Citizens (ThürSenMitwBetG) and the Thuringian Municipal Code. The Advisory Board is an independent representation of the interests of the city's senior citizens and serves to strengthen their participation rights. It is an advisory body to the city council and the city administration.
Work of the Advisory Board
The work of the advisory board is intended to expand the scope of action of older residents of Jena and arouse their interest in solving municipal tasks. The members are therefore in contact with the city's senior citizens in order to identify their needs.
Permanent tasks of the Seniors' Advisory Council
- Advising and supporting the city council and the city administration, in particular the elderly care planner and the honorary senior citizens' representative
- Cooperation with the providers of inpatient care for the elderly, such as social welfare centers and outpatient services
- Representing the interests of the older generation in the media and public relations work
- Advice for older people (legal advice is excluded)
- Collaboration in the municipal networks for senior citizens
- Participation in issues relating to the construction of senior housing and senior facilities as well as public transportation areas
- Collaboration in the Thuringia State Seniors' Council
Other tasks of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council
- Visits to retirement homes, nursing homes and meeting centers as well as events for senior citizens in the local districts
- Contact with care home advisory councils and the municipal care home supervisory authority
- Representing the interests of senior citizens on local public transport
- Representation of the safety needs of older people

Working groups
The Municipal Senior Citizens' Advisory Council of the City of Jena is an important partner and mediator of the needs, concerns and opinions of the older generations. It works in three working groups in line with the city council committees:
- WG 1: Social Affairs / Health / Care (Head: Ms. Jordan)
- WG 2: Order / Safety / Urban Development / Environment (Head: Mr. Kühne)
- WG 3: Culture (Head: Ms. Rechenbach)
- WG 4: Education / Sport (Head: N.N.)
The heads of the working groups take part in the following City Council committee meetings: Social Committee, Urban Development/Environmental Committee, Culture Committee.
Calendar of meetings
The meetings of the Municipal Senior Citizens' Advisory Council are open to the public. Interested citizens are invited to attend. The dates can be viewed in the city's meeting calendar. It also contains all the minutes of the meetings and the members' contacts.
Partner
The Municipal Senior Citizens' Advisory Council is supported by the Senior Citizens' Representative. Their task is to strengthen the participation rights of the older generation and promote active political participation.
The Seniors' Office also supports the Municipal Seniors' Advisory Council in an advisory capacity and assists with public relations work.
