Education

Education also plays an important role for people who have already retired from working life. Many older people attend further training courses or discover previously unknown areas of knowledge for themselves. There are various opportunities for further education in Jena.

Meeting centers for senior citizens offer a fixed and changing program of various educational activities. These can be lectures, discussion groups, language courses or cultural excursions, for example. You can find a monthly calendar of events on the website of the senior citizens' office.

You can find an overview of the meeting centers here.

The Jena Adult Education Center (VHS) offers a variety of courses that change every six months. Whether language or health courses, PC training or creative activities. There are also regular lectures on art, literature, history or travel.

The program booklets are available either on site at Grietgasse 7a or on the VHS website.

At Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU), older people have various opportunities to further their education. For example, they can enrol as guest students and attend courses. Information on guest students can be found here.

The University of Jena also offers a so-called Seniorenkolleg especially for older people. Once a month, there is a free lecture on topics from the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. You can find the program here.
